We're getting ready for the season premiere of Breaking Bad season 5. Here's an in depth refresher on the season finale of season 4, one of the best episodes with an insane surprise at the end.
Gustavo figures out there's a bomb under his car
Gus comes back to his car with his goons after telling Jesse to come back to the lab. Walter has to remove the bomb from his car so that there's no more suspicion.
Then he goes back into the hospital.
That was one of the most suspenseful scenes when we saw Gus start looking out into the city looking for someone.
DEA takes Jesse for questioning
As Jesse and Walter are sitting together discussing what to do next to get at Gus, the DEA comes by to take Jesse for questioning because of his mentioning the drug ricin to the doctors and that Brock could've been poisoned with ricin, wondering how he could know such a thing.
They then start interrogating him until he asks for his lawyer Saul Goodman.
The blackmailing bitch secretary
Walter tries to go get Saul to help them and of course the secretary is being a bitch. First she won't answer the phone so Walter breaks the window and breaks in. She starts flipping out and as Walter tries explaining to her their circumstance, she apparently doesn't give a shit.
She tells him that everyone is in danger. Walter asks for Saul's phone number because she must be the only person who knows where he is.
I don't know why Saul wouldn't tell Walter and Jesse where he is since he is their lawyer. But I'm guessing it's because it was an end game for him and he was trying to exit.
Walter offers her $1700 for the door, but she wises up on him and tells him that it's going to cost $20k Damn! Everyone wants a buck! So poor Walter had to go back to his house which is full of danger in order to get more cash.
Walter gets more cash
Obviously in fear of his life and knowing that Gus has a hit out for him, he watches his house with binoculars, unsure whether someone is there waiting for him. They turn out to be FBI agents.
So he calls up his neighbor and tells her that he left the stove on and since she has the key, he asks her to check on it, of course knowing that whoever's there would leave once they saw the neighbor come in.
His plan works and two guys come out from the backyard once she goes in. Once the neighbor leaves, Walter then rushes in to the basement crawl space to get the cash. As he's leaving, the agents hear the door close. Walter goes back in the crawl space and leaves from the backyard.
The plan to get back at Gus
When Saul comes to save Walter from the DEA, he asks Jesse for more information and when Jesse says he knows something, then we see Saul meeting up with Walter to share that information. The information is that Tio Salamanca's is Gus's enemy. Héctor "Tio" Salamanca was the former right hand man and enforcer of Don Eladio who Gus killed.
They want to try involving him to get back at Gus while he gets revenge. Everyone knows that Gustavo killed people from Salamanca's family and kept throwing it in his face so this is the perfect guy to help Walter and Jesse.
The plan which unravels later is that they want to get Hector to go to the DEA to get Gus's attention. Once Gus comes to try to kill Hector, that's when they attack.
Hector meets with the DEA
The nurse uses the alphabet card to understand Hector which spells out "Need DEA." When the DEA come by they're told that Hector will only speak to Hank Schrader , Walter's brother in-law.
When Hector sits down with the DEA he spells out "Suck my" and then they just stop him realizing that it's going no where. Of course we didn't understand either as we're watching the episode. Hector leaves.
At first you think that Hector is not cooperating with Walter, but that was the plan actually, to make Gus think that Hector was talking so they can get his attention.
Tyrus, one of Gus's goons sees Hector at the station and calls Gus. Gus asks Tyrus to pay Hector a visit and see if there are any wire taps in the wall.
The old lady that almost got Walter caught
As Tyrus arrived in Hector's room to check for wiretaps, Walter was outside the room.
The neighbor to Hector noticed Walter outside and started saying "Hi" to him. Tyrus heard her but didn't know what was going on so he just left.
Gus visits Hector
Once Tyrus tells Gus that everything is clear Gus comes by. Of course Tyrus doesn't know that Walter was there as he was hiding outside the building and planted the bomb.
This was a great showdown because you knew what was going to happen.
Gus took out a syringe with poison and was getting ready to inject inside of Hector but he first told him to look him in the eye.
Hector at first continued to look away as he never looks at Gus in the face because of all that he did to him.
Suddenly, hector turns his face and looks Gus in the eye and then starts slamming on his bell multiple times. Gus gets confused but after a few hits on the bell he starts realizing something is wrong. They show a shot of the bomb planted on Hector's wheelchair. Gus then suddenly screams out and stands up.
The bomb explodes.
Walter and Jesse destroy the lab
After Walter listens to the news in his car outside the old folk's home he hears that 3 people are dead, Tyrus, Hector and Gus he goes to save Jesse back at the lab.
He kills the man that was watching Jesse at the lab and they pour chemicals all over the lab and light it up. It burns up and is destroyed.
Jesse and Walter shake hands at the hospital
Walter and Jesse meet up at the hospital again. Jesse tells Walter that Brock didn't die of ricin and that it was another flower kids eat called "Lily of the valley."
"So Gus didn't poison him after all... still... he had to go ... right?" - Jesse
"Damn right. Gus had to go." - Walter
He tells him that Gus didn't poison him and seeks confirmation from Walter that they did the right thing. Jesse says that he has to get back and Walter reaches out his hand as Jesse shakes it.
Walter talks to his wife
This was the culmination of everything. He calls his wife while she's sitting down with Hank and the family watching the news about the bomb at the old folk's home.
When she answer he acts calms as he always does. When she asks him how he is he says,
"I'm a ... I'm doing quite well ... I'm good."
She tells him that Gus is dead and if he knows about it, he replies,
"It's over. We're safe." - Walter
"Was this you? What happened?" - Skyler
"I won" - Walter
Walter then hangs up and drives off. Classic! Nothing better could've been said.
The lily of the Valley
Of course one of the best surprises remains in like that last seconds of the episode. They take us to the backyard of Walter's home and zoom in slowly at a plant in his backyard and it's called "Lily of the Valley"
Obviously it's not fully confirmed but the idea to me hear is that it was either a coincidence or it was Walter's original plan and that he in fact did poison Brock to wake Jesse up.
I'm sure he didn't plan on killing Brock but did it only to wake Jesse up to get him to rise up against Gus once and for all. it worked.
